Echocardiography
Perioperative & Device Echo in Cardiac Surgery
A two-day, simulation-based training at ADN CoE focused on mastering perioperative and device-related echocardiography for cardiac surgery and structural interventions.

Training Overview
Perioperative & Device Echo in Cardiac Surgery Training is an advanced, practice-oriented educational program designed for cardiologists, anesthesiologists, and echocardiographers specializing in intraoperative and interventional echocardiography. This two-day program provides an in-depth understanding of the echocardiographic workflow across the perioperative continuum—from pre-surgical assessment and intraoperative monitoring to post-procedure evaluation and device function analysis.
The course begins with detailed sessions on cardiac surgical anatomy, TEE and 3D echo imaging principles, and perioperative hemodynamic assessment. Participants learn to optimize imaging protocols for different cardiac procedures, including valve repair/replacement, congenital corrections, and mechanical or transcatheter device implantation.
Through simulation-based training, participants perform real-time echocardiographic image acquisition and interpretation using high-fidelity echo simulators and case datasets. Hands-on modules include intraoperative TEE for valve function assessment, prosthetic valve evaluation, LV/RV function monitoring, and device positioning and performance assessment (such as LVADs, occluders, and annuloplasty rings).
Case-based discussions and live or recorded surgical procedure reviews allow participants to correlate echo findings with intraoperative events, surgical decisions, and postoperative outcomes. Dedicated workshops focus on recognizing device complications, managing hemodynamic instability, and integrating echo data into surgical and interventional planning.
Interactive faculty sessions provide opportunities for direct mentorship and multidisciplinary collaboration between echocardiographers, cardiac surgeons, and anesthesiologists. By the end of the program, participants will have developed advanced technical proficiency and clinical judgment for comprehensive perioperative and device-related echocardiographic evaluation.
