Pelvic Congestion Syndrome & Varicocele Embolization Masterclass

A one-day, simulation-based program at ADN CoE focused on practical pelvic venous embolization, gonadal catheterization techniques, and procedural decision-making in interventional radiology and venous disease settings.

Training Overview

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome & Varicocele Embolization Masterclass is a focused, simulation-based educational program designed to strengthen clinical decision-making and technical proficiency in transcatheter endovascular treatment of pelvic venous disorders and male varicoceles. This one-day intensive training combines pelvic and gonadal venous anatomy, patient selection criteria, case-based learning, and high-fidelity simulations to support safe, effective, and minimally invasive venous embolization therapies.

The program begins with essential modules on pelvic venous hemodynamics, reflux patterns, and multi-modality imaging interpretation (Duplex Ultrasound, CT/MR Venography, and Catheter Venography). Participants review diagnostic criteria for Pelvic Congestion Syndrome (PCS) and male varicocele, pain mapping, and gain a structured approach to identifying underlying compressive syndromes—such as May-Thurner or Nutcracker phenomena—in daily practice.

Simulation-based sessions focus on retrograde catheterization of internal iliac and gonadal (ovarian/testicular) veins, microcatheter navigation through tortuous venous tributaries, and real-time fluoroscopic roadmapping. Intensive hands-on workshops cover the selection, sizing, and deployment of diverse embolic tools, including mechanical devices (pushable/detachable coils and vascular plugs) and sclerosants/foam agents.

Advanced case discussions address challenging clinical scenarios, such as recurrent varicoceles, complex collateral venous networks, persistent post-embolization pain, and high-risk outflow variations. Integrated simulations emphasize crisis management for acute intraprocedural complications, including coil migration, vein wall perforation, non-target sclerosant flow, and vasospasm.

By the end of this intensive program, participants will be able to confidently select appropriate embolic strategies, navigate complex pelvic venous pathways, and execute embolization procedures safely while effectively preventing and managing potential complications.
