Functional MRI (fMRI): Design & Analysis Simulation

A two-day, simulation-based neuroimaging program at ADN CoE focused on mastering functional MRI (fMRI) study design, data acquisition, and advanced analysis techniques for mapping brain activation and connectivity.

Training Overview

Functional MRI (fMRI): Design & Analysis Simulation Training is an intensive, simulation-based educational program designed for neuroradiologists, neuroscientists, and imaging researchers seeking to advance their expertise in fMRI acquisition, experimental design, and analysis workflows. This two-day course provides a comprehensive understanding of the physiological basis of fMRI, task and resting-state paradigms, and statistical modeling for brain activation mapping.

The program begins with in-depth sessions covering BOLD (Blood Oxygen Level–Dependent) signal mechanisms, experimental design principles, and best practices for fMRI data acquisition. Participants then gain hands-on experience performing preprocessing, motion correction, spatial normalization, and statistical parametric mapping on dedicated simulation platforms replicating real-world imaging environments.

Through practical case simulations and interactive workshops, attendees design fMRI experiments, analyze activation maps, and interpret connectivity patterns using both GLM-based and data-driven approaches. Specialized sessions also address quality assurance, artifact management, and reproducibility in neuroimaging research.

Participants engage in simulation exercises with anonymized datasets to practice the full analytical pipeline from paradigm design to interpretation and explore clinical and research applications of fMRI in neurology, psychiatry, and cognitive neuroscience. Expert faculty guide participants through the integration of advanced AI-assisted fMRI analytics and network-based brain mapping.

By the end of the training, participants will have the skills to independently design, execute, and analyze fMRI studies, ensuring methodological rigor and interpretative accuracy in both clinical and research settings.
