Diabetic Foot Interventions

A one-day, simulation-based program at ADN CoE focused on practical diabetic foot revascularization, angiosome-guided techniques, and procedural decision-making in peripheral endovascular and limb-salvage settings.

Training Overview

Diabetic Foot Interventions Training is a focused, simulation-based educational program designed to strengthen clinical decision-making and technical proficiency in endovascular revascularization for diabetic foot ulcers and Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia (CLTI). This one-day intensive training combines angiosome concepts, advanced below-the-knee (BTK) and below-the-ankle (BTA) vessel crossing algorithms, case-based learning, and high-fidelity simulations to support safe, effective, and limb-saving procedures.

The program begins with essential modules on wound-targeted revascularization, the WIfI (Wound, Ischemia, foot Infection) classification, and multi-modality vascular imaging review (CTA, Duplex Ultrasound, and DSA). Participants review pedal arch taxonomy, vessel calcification patterns, and gain a structured approach to selecting direct angiosome-guided revascularization pathways in daily practice.

Simulation-based sessions focus on microcatheter navigation, dedicated micro-guidewire handling, and pedal loop reconstruction. Intensive hands-on workshops cover alternative access techniques—including retrograde pedal, plantar, and digital access—vessel preparation (specialized BTK balloons, atherectomy, and drug-coated balloons), and precise vessel sizing.

Advanced case discussions address challenging scenarios in diabetic patients with severe infrapopliteal occlusions, "desert foot" anatomy, and extensive tissue loss. Integrated simulations emphasize crisis management for acute intraprocedural complications, such as severe vessel perforation, acute vasospasm, distal atheroembolism, and pedal access-site complications.

By the end of this intensive program, participants will be able to confidently select appropriate access routes, execute angiosome-directed revascularizations, and perform diabetic foot interventions safely while effectively preventing and managing potential complications.
