Training Overview

CTO PCI Masterclass is a highly specialized, case-focused training program designed for interventional cardiologists and cardiology professionals seeking to advance their knowledge of the percutaneous treatment of Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO).

This two-day intensive program combines focused theoretical education with real CTO PCI case observation, case-based learning, and expert-led procedural discussions, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of CTO anatomy, lesion characteristics, procedural planning, and contemporary recanalization strategies.

The program begins with focused theoretical sessions covering coronary anatomy, CTO lesion classification, and key crossing strategies, including Antegrade Wire Escalation (AWE), Antegrade Dissection and Re-entry (ADR), and retrograde approaches. Participants are also introduced to the Hybrid CTO Algorithm and practical decision-making frameworks used to select and adapt strategies during complex CTO interventions.

A central component of the Masterclass is observational, case-based clinical training. Participants observe real CTO PCI cases and follow each stage of the procedure, from angiographic assessment and strategy selection to guidewire and microcatheter choice, crossing techniques, lesion preparation, stent implantation, and final procedural assessment.

Throughout the cases, faculty discuss device and wire selection, escalation strategies, strategy-switching decisions, procedural challenges, and complication prevention and management, including coronary perforation, dissection, collateral-related complications, subintimal tracking, and unsuccessful recanalization.

Dedicated case discussions allow participants to review complex CTO anatomies and understand the rationale behind different procedural approaches. Where clinically applicable, intravascular imaging, particularly IVUS, is incorporated into case analysis to support lesion assessment, procedural guidance, and stent optimization.

The course places particular emphasis on real-time clinical decision-making: when to continue with the initial approach, when to modify or switch strategies, how to interpret procedural findings, and how experienced CTO operators approach challenging anatomical and clinical scenarios.

By the end of the Masterclass, participants will have strengthened their theoretical foundation, expanded their understanding of contemporary CTO PCI techniques, and gained valuable case-based clinical insight into the planning, decision-making, and management of complex CTO PCI procedures.

This Masterclass includes observational training based on real CTO PCI cases. Participants observe procedures performed by the treating clinical team and take part in faculty-led case discussions and procedural analysis.

The program is observational unless otherwise specifically authorized by the relevant hospital and permitted under applicable regulations. Participation in the program does not imply authorization to independently perform or assist in clinical procedures.

Clinical cases are subject to patient eligibility, informed consent, hospital policies, clinical scheduling, medical necessity, and the treating physician's clinical judgment.

Therefore, the number, type, complexity, and timing of clinical cases cannot be guaranteed in advance and may change according to clinical circumstances.

Patient safety and appropriate clinical care always take priority over educational activities.

Logistics and Additional Information

Transfer Services

Participants using ADN CoE® accommodation and transfer services should follow the confirmed pick-up and drop-off schedule communicated before the program.

Transfer arrangements are organized according to the confirmed training and hospital schedule. Participants will be informed in advance of the relevant meeting points and transfer times.

Important Travel Notice – Changeable Tickets Strongly Recommended

Because this Masterclass depends on scheduled live clinical CTO PCI cases, course dates may occasionally need to be adjusted due to changes in patient status, clinical indications, hospital cath lab schedules, emergency cases or faculty availability.

International participants are therefore strongly advised to purchase refundable, flexible or changeable airline tickets and accommodation whenever possible.

Participants should avoid purchasing non-refundable or non-changeable travel arrangements.

ADN CoE® does not determine airline fare conditions and cannot be responsible for airline price differences, rebooking charges, cancellation penalties or other travel expenses resulting from independently purchased flights or accommodation.

Participants will be informed as early as reasonably possible if a clinically necessary schedule change occurs.

International Participants

Participants are responsible for ensuring that their passport and visa are valid for travel. Requests for invitation letters or supporting documentation should be submitted to trainings@adncoe.com, preferably at least four weeks before the anticipated program date.

Participants should not make inflexible international travel arrangements until they have reviewed the applicable course and travel conditions.

Refundable, flexible or changeable airline tickets and accommodation are strongly recommended.

Attire

Professional or business-casual attire is recommended. Participants entering clinical or cath lab environments must comply with hospital-specific clothing, hygiene and infection-control requirements.

Scrubs and/or protective equipment will be provided or arranged where required by the host institution.

Health & Safety

All participants must comply with the safety, infection-control, confidentiality and cath lab protocols of the clinical training venue.

Refund Policy

Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via email to trainings@adncoe.com.

Refunds will be processed based on the following schedule:

• More than 30 days before the course start date: Full refund minus a processing fee of 5%.

• Between 15 and 30 days before the course start date: 50% refund.

• Less than 15 days before the course start date: No refund will be issued.

No refunds will be given for no-shows or partial attendance.

Transfer of Registration

Participants may request to transfer their registration to another eligible individual from the same institution with prior written approval from ADN CoE®.

Requests should normally be submitted at least 10 days before the scheduled training date.

Course Date Changes, Postponement or Cancellation

Because the educational program incorporates real clinical CTO PCI procedures, ADN CoE® reserves the right to modify the schedule, postpone the program or change the training dates when necessary due to patient-related circumstances, hospital scheduling, faculty availability or other circumstances outside reasonable operational control.

Where a program is cancelled by ADN CoE® rather than rescheduled, participants will be offered the applicable refund or transfer options according to the ADN CoE® registration and payment policy.

Non-Transferable Fees

Course fees may not be transferred to another course, program or service unless expressly approved in writing by ADN CoE®.

Faculty Disclosure and Conflict of Interest 

Faculty members and proctors are required to disclose relevant financial or commercial relationships in accordance with applicable educational standards.

Educational decisions and clinical discussions remain independent of commercial interests.

Content Independence 

The scientific curriculum is developed according to current clinical evidence, accepted CTO PCI procedural principles and faculty expertise.

Participation in the program does not constitute product endorsement, and educational content is not designed as commercial promotion.

Evaluation and Feedback 

Participants will be invited to complete a course evaluation and knowledge assessment following the program.

Feedback is used to continuously improve the scientific and clinical training experience.

Quality Assurance 

Course content is periodically reviewed and updated to reflect developments in CTO PCI techniques, coronary intervention strategies, intravascular imaging, devices and contemporary clinical practice.

Sponsorship Transparency 

Where commercial sponsorship or educational support exists, relevant disclosures will be communicated appropriately.

Sponsors do not determine individual patient treatment or independently control the scientific curriculum.

Patient privacy is strictly protected.

Participants may not photograph, record, distribute or disclose identifiable patient information unless explicitly authorized by the relevant institution and permitted under applicable law.

Participants must comply with all confidentiality and data-protection requirements of the participating healthcare institution.
