Congenital Heart Diseases
Congenital Defect Closures: ASD, VSD, and PFO
A practical, simulation-based training focused on transcatheter ASD, VSD, and PFO closures—empowering cardiologists with hands-on experience and imaging-guided procedural mastery at ADN CoE.

Training Overview
Congenital Defect Closures: ASD, VSD, and PFO Training is a specialized, simulation-based educational program designed for interventional cardiologists, pediatric cardiologists, and imaging specialists involved in the diagnosis and transcatheter management of congenital septal defects. This two-day course offers a detailed exploration of the procedural workflow—from patient selection and imaging assessment to device deployment, troubleshooting, and post-procedural care.
The program begins with comprehensive sessions on atrial and ventricular septal anatomy, pathophysiology, and imaging evaluation using TEE, ICE, and 3D Echocardiography. Participants learn to interpret defect morphology, rim adequacy, and hemodynamic implications to select appropriate closure devices and determine the best procedural strategy.
Through hands-on simulation training, attendees perform ASD, VSD, and PFO closure procedures on advanced synthetic heart models mimicking real cath lab conditions. Simulation exercises focus on catheter manipulation, device loading, defect crossing, positioning, and release under live imaging and fluoroscopic guidance.
Case-based discussions and recorded procedural demonstrations allow participants to analyze real-world cases, assess complications such as device embolization, residual shunts, or arrhythmias, and develop troubleshooting skills. Dedicated sessions also cover post-procedural imaging assessment, antithrombotic management, and long-term follow-up of patients after transcatheter closure.
Interactive faculty panels offer opportunities for open discussion on challenging anatomies, hybrid approaches, and future innovations in congenital heart defect interventions. By the end of the course, participants will achieve both the technical competence and clinical insight required to safely and effectively perform congenital septal defect closures.
