Cardio-Oncology: Echo in Cancer Patients

A two-day simulation-based program at ADN CoE focused on echocardiographic assessment and monitoring of cancer patients, emphasizing early detection and management of cardiotoxicity.

Training Overview

Cardio-Oncology: Echo in Cancer Patients Training is an intensive and clinically focused educational program designed for cardiologists, oncologists, and echocardiography specialists involved in the cardiovascular care of cancer patients. This two-day program provides a comprehensive understanding of cardio-oncology principles, focusing on the role of echocardiography in detecting, preventing, and managing cancer therapy–related cardiac dysfunction (CTRCD).

The course begins with in-depth sessions on the pathophysiology of cardiotoxicity, mechanisms of cardiac injury from chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and clinical implications in various cancer populations. Participants will explore imaging protocols and advanced echocardiographic techniques, including strain imaging, 3D echocardiography, and Doppler analysis for early detection of myocardial dysfunction.

Through simulation-based workshops, participants will practice standardized image acquisition and interpretation on advanced echo simulators, replicating real patient cases. Hands-on sessions will cover left ventricular strain assessment, diastolic function analysis, right heart evaluation, and longitudinal follow-up imaging strategies for patients undergoing cancer therapy.

Case-based discussions and interactive faculty panels will highlight real-world clinical scenarios, including baseline risk assessment, management of cardiotoxicity, multidisciplinary decision-making, and follow-up strategies for cancer survivors. Participants will also learn to integrate multimodality imaging approaches—combining echo, cardiac MRI, and CT—for comprehensive assessment when standard echo parameters are inconclusive.

By the end of the program, participants will gain the technical and clinical expertise necessary to implement effective cardio-oncology imaging protocols, collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, and optimize cardiovascular care in oncology patients.
