Brain Connectivity & Graph Theory Applications

A two-day, simulation-based neuroimaging program at ADN CoE focused on mastering brain connectivity analysis and graph theory applications for advanced mapping of neural networks and cognitive function.

Training Overview

Brain Connectivity & Graph Theory Applications Training is an advanced, simulation-based educational program tailored for neuroscientists, radiologists, data scientists, and neuroengineers aiming to explore the structural and functional organization of the human brain using network science principles. This two-day course provides a comprehensive understanding of brain connectivity mapping, graph theoretical modeling, and their translational applications in clinical and cognitive neuroscience.

The program begins with an overview of the fundamentals of brain network architecture, including structural (DTI-based) and functional (fMRI-based) connectivity. Participants learn the workflow of data acquisition, preprocessing, and network construction using cutting-edge neuroimaging simulation software.

Hands-on simulation sessions guide attendees through network metric calculations (e.g., clustering coefficient, path length, modularity, and centrality), enabling them to analyze and visualize brain connectivity patterns. Participants explore how disruptions in network topology relate to neurological and psychiatric disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and schizophrenia.

AI-enhanced simulations introduce methods for machine learning-based graph analysis, predictive modeling, and connectome-based biomarker discovery. Case-based workshops provide opportunities to interpret real-world datasets and perform network analyses using standardized toolkits like Brain Connectivity Toolbox and GRETNA.

By the end of the course, attendees will have developed the technical and analytical skills to construct, analyze, and interpret complex brain networks using graph theory principles—translating data-driven insights into meaningful clinical and research applications.
