AI & Automation in Clinical Microbiology Diagnostics
Overview of AI and automation applications in modern clinical microbiology diagnostics.

Training Overview
AI & Automation in Clinical Microbiology Diagnostics is a comprehensive educational program designed to strengthen the theoretical knowledge, analytical skills, and diagnostic decision-making abilities of healthcare professionals involved in modern clinical microbiology laboratories. Hosted at the ADN CoE Training, Research Center & Core Lab, this two-day program integrates structured theoretical education with case-based learning, focusing on the principles and clinical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation technologies in microbiology diagnostics.
The course covers core topics including fundamentals of AI and machine learning, automated microbiology workflows, digital microbiology systems, AI-supported image analysis, culture reading automation, data integration, and decision-support tools. Emphasis is placed on accurate result interpretation, clinical correlation, workflow optimization, and the impact of AI-driven technologies on diagnostic efficiency and quality.
Through expert-led lectures and structured case discussions, participants review real-world applications of AI and automation in clinical microbiology, enhancing their understanding of how these technologies support pathogen detection, identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and laboratory efficiency. Training is delivered by experienced microbiologists and laboratory informatics experts, reinforcing diagnostic accuracy and quality standards.
In addition to core sessions, the program includes discussions on reporting standards, validation and quality assurance, laboratory workflow redesign, regulatory and ethical considerations, and integration of AI-based results into multidisciplinary clinical practice. Case-based sessions address challenges commonly encountered during implementation of automation and AI systems in routine microbiology laboratories.
By the end of the program, participants will have enhanced their ability to understand, evaluate, and apply AI and automation technologies effectively in clinical microbiology diagnostic settings.
