Fellowships
Pediatric Neurointervention

A Pediatric Interventional Neurology Fellowship is a specialized training program designed for physicians who wish to advance their expertise in the diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of neurovascular disorders in children. During the fellowship, doctors will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced pediatric neurointervention specialists and multidisciplinary pediatric care teams to develop advanced skills in imaging interpretation, procedural planning, and endovascular management tailored to the pediatric population.
Through a combination of clinical exposure, case-based learning, didactic lectures, and research opportunities, fellows will gain a comprehensive understanding of the unique aspects of pediatric neurovascular care. This includes developmental neurovascular anatomy, differences between pediatric and adult cerebrovascular disease, and advanced imaging techniques used in children. Fellows will learn how to evaluate complex pediatric neurovascular conditions such as arteriovenous malformations, vein of Galen malformations, pediatric stroke, and other congenital or acquired vascular abnormalities, while developing individualized treatment strategies that consider age-specific physiology, growth, and long-term neurological outcomes.
During the fellowship, physicians will also gain experience managing patients who require highly specialized, image-guided neurointerventional procedures. Training includes endovascular embolization techniques, mechanical thrombectomy considerations in children, vascular access strategies in small-caliber vessels, and peri-procedural management in collaboration with pediatric anesthesiology and intensive care teams. Fellows will develop strong communication skills to effectively counsel families and coordinate care with pediatric neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, and rehabilitation specialists, ensuring comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment.
At the completion of the Pediatric Interventional Neurology Fellowship, physicians will be well-prepared to pursue a career in pediatric neurointervention with advanced technical expertise and clinical judgment. Graduates will be equipped to deliver safe, precise, and child-centered neurovascular care, manage complex procedural decisions, and contribute to specialized pediatric neurovascular centers. They will also have opportunities to pursue further specialization in areas such as complex vascular malformations, pediatric stroke systems of care, or advanced neuroendovascular techniques.
