Fellowships
Neurology

Specialty Overview
Neurology encompasses the diagnosis, treatment and longitudinal management of disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, neuromuscular system and related neurological functions.
ADN CoE programmes are designed for physicians seeking structured exposure to contemporary neurological practice. Depending on the selected pathway, participants may observe specialist clinics and inpatient neurological services, engage in structured case-based learning or undertake a longer-term fellowship focused on longitudinal clinical and academic development.
Programmes may include exposure to stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology, headache, cognitive disorders, neuromuscular disease, neurodegenerative conditions, neuroimaging, electrophysiology and multidisciplinary neurological care.
Clinical Observership
Observe Contemporary Neurology Practice
The Neurology Clinical Observership is designed for physicians who wish to observe how neurologists assess, investigate and manage patients across a broad spectrum of acute and chronic neurological disorders.
The programme is primarily observation-based and focuses on understanding neurological examination, diagnostic workflows, neuroimaging interpretation, multidisciplinary decision-making and longitudinal patient management.
Clinical Exposure May Include
Neurological history taking and examination
Acute neurological assessment
Stroke and transient ischaemic attack pathways
Epilepsy and seizure evaluation
Headache and migraine assessment
Movement disorders
Parkinsonian syndromes
Multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunological disorders
Cognitive impairment and dementia
Neuromuscular disorders
Peripheral neuropathy
Motor neuron disease exposure
Neurodegenerative conditions
Neuroimaging review
EEG workflows
EMG and nerve-conduction study workflows
Inpatient neurology ward rounds
Multidisciplinary case discussions
Long-term follow-up and rehabilitation pathways
Educational Format
Participants observe neurological practice under the supervision of experienced faculty and may attend appropriate outpatient clinics, ward rounds, neuroimaging reviews, electrophysiology sessions, case discussions and multidisciplinary meetings.
The observership does not provide independent patient-care or procedural authority and does not replace local licensing, institutional credentialing or recognised specialist training requirements.
Best Suited For
Physicians seeking:
Short-term exposure to contemporary neurology
Familiarity with neurological diagnostic workflows
Observation of specialist neurological assessment
Exposure to neuroimaging and electrophysiological decision-making
International professional development without undertaking a long-term programme
Clinical Immersion
Move Beyond Observation into Structured Neurological Learning
The Neurology Clinical Immersion Programme provides a more intensive educational experience than a standard observership.
Participants receive structured faculty interaction, guided case review and focused neurological learning while remaining within the boundaries of local institutional, professional and licensing requirements.
The programme is designed to help participants understand not only what neurologists do, but also how clinical examination, lesion localisation, neuroimaging, electrophysiology and disease patterns are integrated into diagnostic and therapeutic decisions.
The Programme May Include
Structured neurological case review
Faculty-guided localisation exercises
Differential diagnosis development
Acute stroke case analysis
Epilepsy and seizure case discussions
Headache and migraine case review
Movement-disorder assessment
Multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology discussions
Cognitive and dementia case review
Neuromuscular disease assessment
Neuroimaging interpretation
EEG interpretation discussions
EMG and nerve-conduction study review
Acute neurological deterioration analysis
Treatment-strategy discussions
Rehabilitation and follow-up planning
Multidisciplinary neurological case conferences
Educational Emphasis
Clinical immersion focuses on:
Observe → Localise → Interpret → Analyse → Discuss → Apply
Participants are encouraged to analyse neurological findings, identify lesion localisation, review relevant investigations and discuss diagnostic and management strategies directly with faculty rather than functioning solely as passive observers.
Best Suited For
Physicians who want:
More intensive exposure than an observership
Structured interaction with neurology faculty
Case-based neurological reasoning
Greater confidence in neurological localisation
Exposure to neuroimaging and electrophysiological interpretation
Focused professional development without committing to a long-term fellowship
Clinical Fellowship
Longitudinal Training in Neurology
The Neurology Clinical Fellowship is the most comprehensive educational pathway within the specialty.
It is designed for physicians seeking sustained exposure to specialist neurological practice and progressive development in neurological examination, lesion localisation, diagnostic reasoning, investigation interpretation and longitudinal patient management.
Unlike a short observership or clinical immersion programme, the fellowship follows a longitudinal educational model, allowing participants to encounter a broader spectrum of neurological disorders and understand how diagnosis, treatment and follow-up evolve over time.
Fellowship Focus Areas May Include
Acute ischaemic stroke
Haemorrhagic stroke
Transient ischaemic attack
Epilepsy and seizure disorders
Headache and migraine
Parkinson’s disease
Movement disorders
Multiple sclerosis
Neuroimmunological disorders
Dementia and cognitive disorders
Alzheimer’s disease
Neuromuscular disorders
Peripheral neuropathies
Myasthenia gravis
Motor neuron disease
Spinal cord disorders
Neurodegenerative diseases
Neuroinfectious disease exposure where available
Neuro-oncology exposure where available
EEG
EMG and nerve-conduction studies
Neuroimaging
Neurological rehabilitation
Long-term neurological follow-up
Multidisciplinary neurological care
Fellowship Learning Model
The fellowship may combine:
Longitudinal inpatient and outpatient case exposure
Faculty-guided case discussions
Neurology ward rounds
Structured neurological examination review
Neuroimaging sessions
EEG and electrophysiology review
Multidisciplinary neurological meetings
Academic reading
Evidence-based guideline review
Clinical reasoning exercises
Case presentations
Literature discussion
Morbidity and outcome review
Reflective learning
Structured faculty feedback
Where permitted by the host institution and applicable regulations, additional supervised educational activities may be incorporated. The precise scope of participation is determined by the host centre, participant background and local professional requirements.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the fellowship, participants should have developed a stronger ability to:
Perform a structured neurological assessment
Localise neurological lesions clinically
Construct appropriate neurological differential diagnoses
Recognise time-critical neurological presentations
Interpret neuroimaging in clinical context
Understand the role of EEG and electrophysiological testing
Recognise major patterns of stroke, epilepsy and movement disorders
Assess demyelinating and neuroimmunological conditions
Evaluate cognitive and neuromuscular presentations
Integrate examination, imaging and neurophysiological findings into clinical reasoning
Discuss evidence-based neurological treatment strategies
Participate effectively in multidisciplinary neurological care
Develop structured long-term follow-up plans
Best Suited For
The fellowship is intended for physicians seeking:
Long-term structured development in neurology
Broader exposure to acute and chronic neurological disease
Regular faculty interaction
Progressive diagnostic learning over time
Deeper understanding of neuroimaging and neurophysiology
Greater exposure to complex neurological decision-making
International professional and academic development
