A Thoracic Surgery (VATS) Fellowship is a specialized training program designed for doctors who wish to advance their knowledge and expertise in the field of thoracic surgery, with a specific focus on Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS). During the fellowship, doctors will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced thoracic surgeons to develop their skills in the diagnosis and management of complex thoracic conditions.

Through a combination of clinical rotations, didactic lectures, and research opportunities, fellows will gain a comprehensive understanding of the latest advances in thoracic surgery, including the latest diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for the management of thoracic conditions such as lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mediastinal tumors, and chest wall deformities. Fellows will learn how to manage complex thoracic cases, conduct thorough patient evaluations, and develop individualized treatment plans that take into account a patient's medical history, lifestyle, and other factors.

During the fellowship, doctors will also have the opportunity to work with patients who require specialized care, such as those who require minimally invasive thoracic surgery, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery. Fellows will learn how to effectively communicate with patients and their families, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care.

At the completion of the Thoracic Surgery (VATS) Fellowship, doctors will be well-prepared to pursue a career as a thoracic surgeon, with specialized expertise in minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Fellows will be trained to deliver compassionate care that is tailored to the unique needs of each individual patient, and will be equipped to make complex decisions in the management of thoracic conditions. They will also have opportunities to pursue further specialization in a specific area of thoracic surgery, such as lung transplant surgery, advanced endoscopic procedures, or robotic-assisted surgery.
